How I ended up with Green Hair

I started out to the salon with no real intention, just a subtle nice cut and maybe some highlights because mine were grown out about 2 inches. My hair (naturally a dirty blonde)was strong, healthy and shiny, a couple inches below the shoulder with blonde highlights when I walked in. I explained to the HD that I like my hair to look natural, so I dont like the chunky abstract colors, and I do not look good as a brunette so I like the light tones. We agreed that my hair had too many red tones so she wanted to remove the red. Having no idea how to accomplish that, I agreed. She put foil all over my head. When she took the foil off, she washed and dried it and spinned me around to the mirror and said, "well, what do you think?" I am not exaggerating, it was a purplish gray. I am a very young looking 40 but my hair looked 80. It was hideous. I was like "do you see that its gray??" She said, "dont worry it will wash out". I started to panic bacause she didnt seem alarmed... and told her I have a job and a life, I cant go home like this. Everyone in the shop was staring at me. She went and consulted with another HD. The other HD said crush up some Vitamin C pills and mix it with TreSemme Clarifying shampoo to wash out the blue tones. So we tried that. It worked, but very slightly, and got the purplish color out, now its just a funky grayish color. My hair is now dull and limp with no shine or bounce. I got to work Monday and co-worker said it was turning a weird color of GREEN in the back. So I called the salon again and they advised I try the Vitamin C trick at home by myself again. I did as I was told and it DID help with the color, but my hair has no body, no shine, it looks dead. ALSO I discovered my highlights are very blocthy around my scalp. Extremely light at the root about an inch down and then dark all the way down the strand. Plus some of the blonde streaks are almost white and very chunky. Overall not A pretty sight!!!. I went to the shop today and met with the owner. She gave me some Joico KPak Reconstructor, plus the shampoo and conditioner and told me to use once a week. I am supposed to go back for them to correct my color in about a month (I am guessing for FREE)when my hair regains its strength. I'm scared to do ANYTHING though. ANy suggestions?
