Tried to Go Blonde…Went Yellow

I tried too dye my hair platinum blonde yesterday with the ‘Schwartzkoff live colour’ but its gone yellow!!! What can I do? someone suggested a brown dye with a red tone to make sure the hair doesnt go green and someone else suggested another blonde dye. Is there a set time that I should wait to dye it with using a bleaching agent on it?? Please help!!

“I *think* that using a dye with ash tones would work. But beforehand you could always ring a hair salon and ask their advice.”

“Another blonde colour won’t change it at all – could even make it worse. They just don’ t have strong enough bleach in them to lift hair more than a few shades.”

“A darker colour will cover it, but if you want to be blonde your best bet is going to the hairdresser – it might cost a bit to put right but at least your hair will be the colour you want it to be.”

“Jerome Russell does a bleach kit that you can get from Boots. It comes in two parts, a sachet of powder and a bottle of liquid – mix the two and apply. Can’t remember if it’s called a highlighting kit or just a pre-lightener. Your scalp will itch quite a bit while it works, but it will make your hair go light after about 15 minutes or so (do a strand test). If you then apply a platinum blonde hair colour, you’ll get the colour you want. Make sure it’s lightest blonde though, or it’ll go ashy brown.
Be warned though – buy lots and lots of intensive and leave-in conditioners as your hair will be wrecked. Bleaching to platinum is not good for your hair! If you decide not to do it, a red/brown dye will cover it up fine. I had my hair white blonde for years, then dyed it red one night – looked cool and nobody recognised me the next day .”

“Look you can either bleach it again so you get it pale enough to put a blonde toner/dye over it. OR if you want to go back to brown again, use a red dye first (chestnut or auburn), THEN put an ash brown color over the top. That should take you back to brown without going green. Hope this helps”.
