Hair Dyed too Dark !

Just had my hair dyes a dark brown - I am a naural brunette but had a tint done to get rid of old higlights etc and get a natural even colour. BUT it is WAY to dark for my liking! My hairdresser said there is nothing he can do other than wait for it to fade (a few months!) or bleach it. Neither is a great option! What can I do??? Help!!

"This may sound strange but I've heard that if you dye your hair too dark you should wash it with fairy liquid as it helps strip the dye from your hair. I also went back to my natural colour just over a month ago and it felt way to dark but after a few days (and some extra make-up) I started to get used to it and now I love it. "

" Head and Shoulders or Vosene can also be used to strip some of the colour - leave on for about 30 min, then use a good conditioner. "

"Oh and I just remembered something else. Try mixing 3 parts lemon juice to one part conditioner and use it on your hair. Its meant to work really well "

"Fairy Liquid will strip your hair out, or a clarifying shampoo will help. But dont worry, it fades faster than you'd think, and you will get used to it soon....."

"I cant actually believe how much dye was in my hair. Do you think its possible that he put too much in or left it on for too long? - basically I went home and washed it with fairy liquid a few times and then head and shoulders a few times. The water was a mess - loads of dye came out although that usually happens the first few times you wash your hair after dying. BUT I slept with my hair still abit damp and my pillow and this morning the back of my white PJ top were covered in brown stains from the dye!!! Is that normal??
Anyway, washed it loads again this morning - just with head and shoulders it looks about 2% less dark then it did yesterday although I am being told by everyone that I am making a big fuss about it and that it actaully looks fine. lol! But its not to me which is what counts right!!
Thanks all so much for your suggestions. Unfortunately I only got most of them this morning so I couldnt try out any of the suggestions apart from the fairy liquid. I bought the cheapest shampoo I could find in my local store for srtipping effect which happened to be head and shoulders. Never left it on for as long as you suggest but will try that."

"I know what you mean, I went from blonde to dark (after being blonde for nearly 10yrs).....I ran into an old friend at a conference and was swishing away at my hair waiting for them to notice - they didn't. I was really disappointed! "Just keep on with the shampooing, if it was a tint it will continue to come out for a while. Pantene clarifying is quite good for stripping out hair, but to be honest fairy liquid is best, but make sure you use conditioner somewhere down the line, as it will dry it out. The good news is that if it was a tint it should wash out of your bed linen and pjs okay."

"I've also read that Hot Oil is good for this, as it opens the cuticles and colour can leak out. Also condition your hair after using all the stripping shampoos. I bet it looks really nice anyway, but i know what you mean. Same happened to me, and regardless of what anyone else said, i didn't feel right at all. I ended up having a few different colours put through to give it some texture, and it's the happiest i've ever been with my hair! Haven't been able to reproduce it since!"

"I did this.... dyed my hair "natural dark brown", and it went almost black... I hated it, even tho everyone else said it looked amazing. But after I went mad washing my hair with all sorts of stuff to try to tone it down, when it dulled right down, I actually decided that I liked it dark afterall and went extra-dark again. I think its just the initial shock of going dark really.... I like a dark chesnut brown now, has a nice warm glow to it. And a bit of false tan works wonders - i feel very pale when i have dark hair. And a bit more eyeliner is always a good idea.
