Hair Coloring Disaster - Hair Breaking Off

Sorry everyone, very long post but I'm utterly desperate...... Please someone help me. My natural colour is sort of dark blonde/mousey very fine straight hair which I have lightened myself for well over 10 years with no problems. I have always used great quality salon products and my hair has coped pretty well. I often put in a toner - Schwarzkopf Igora Ice Flower 9 1/2-1 which counteracts any yellow. Anyway last weekend for some reason I bought the same brand of toner in Savannah Blonde 9 1/2-5 which was the start of my ongoing problems which have deteriorated steadily all this week.

The Savannah Blonde toner caused my hair to go a hideous shade of yellow/orange so I washed it again about 6 times and then put the Ice Flower over it and subsequently ended up with a browny/pinky/orangey shade - gross. Again I washed it about another 6 times, slight improvement but still too much orange and I repeatedly washed it throughout the week - I mean there toners right? supposed to wash out in 8 shampoos - well that's what it says on the product...... Also tried to lighten it a bit more too.

To cut a long depressing saga shorter, I went in to a hairdresser/warehouse place last night for advice. The first girl I spoke with suggested I re-lighten with a bleach wash (mixing bleach powder with shampoo - yikes- too hit and miss for me..) or alternatively use Morning Fresh detergent to 'strip' the yuk colour out. Another option she offered was 1/2 a head of foils with another hairdresser there which is what I ended up doing - big mistake.

Aah the benefits of hindsight. Anyway I now have blonde hair with orange stripes at the front but worst of all my hair was literally breaking off and falling out at the salon and still is and feels/looks like straw. So bad that I actually put it all (what's left of it) under a hat for work today and there was bits of blonde hair that had shed all over my jumper........ What am I going to do? Any suggestions welcomed but not interested in going dark at this point or any point really. thanks."

"Put a really good moisturising treatment in it to help with the dryness.... As for the colour, Im not sure... sorry, I'll leave that one to the professionals, I dont want to suggest anything in case it makes it worse..."

"You could always go and see another hairdresser just for some suggestions, and if you don't like the sound of the suggestions run like the building is on fire! Don't let them touch your hair unless they have really convinced you, if you are at all uncertain back out."

"Oh you poor thing first off I am sorry to hear of your disaster I have had one recenty too with a semi .......ok any tint/semi or toner with 9 1/2-5 as in the -5 =strawberry red as in Savannah (all savannah's are the same) as it was only a toner your hair must have sucked up the colour & be hanging on like my hair did so far it's nearly 8 weeks & it's finally fading protein shampoo's & treatments are great to help pull any colour out as well as helping your hair- I use Redkens Extreme range the whole blasted range & it's payed off.

"In all honesty when hair is breaking it's time to get the chop it's hard I know as is going darker blonde I went from well past shoulders to just past & the shortest layers to my chin (JUST) & I had to let the vile 6 dark blonde semi fade & now a base 8N /8Ash until my hair can tolerate bleach as I was a level 10 extra extra lightest blonde, so I know how you feel but get a cut & go a shade or 2 darker for your hair's sake..I know so well how hard it is I still am upset so I can sympathise 100%. Also try not to go to too many HD's find a good one & stay with them....I could have let a HD bleach my hair but I would have ended up with broken jelly hair as I demanded a test strand & sooooooo many HD's are willing to bleach but when your hair turns to jelly they won't want to know you.
Good Luck & Go for a cut & in salon Redken ''Chemical Treatment'' it's fantastic & costs $22.00."

"What I think you should do is get a lot of moisture and oil into ur hair because it is obviously very dry... don't get grossed out by what I'm about to say... but if you buy some avocados & let them go a bit brown, you can mash them and put them all over your hair - that will bring natural oils back into your hair.... Alternatively you could use some olive oil and put it through ur hair when you wash it... Or... believe it or not... raw eggs are great for your hair... but I don't recommend it because you don't want to smell like it!!! My mum has beautiful hair to this day because she used to do this back in the time when there was no conditioner!!!"

"For the first 2 weeks using the Extreme Range: Shampoo blot dry apply CAT spray work in & leave 5 minutes than rinse & repeat (this is called back to back treatments to re-enforce the hair's strength) & rinse again, blot dry apply just enough Rescue Force to cover all your hair wrap in plastic & leave for 15 mintues rinse again. Now apply Anti-Snap leave in & after the two weeks are up just shampoo & condition using CAT once a week, you can now add extra moisture either by mixing moisture conditioner with extreme or mix in all soft leave-in conditioner with a little anti-snap."
